In light of everyone releasing their new products at and prior to NAB 2012, we thought we’d fill you in on what Pro Motion has to offer Now!

Arri Alexa

New in our Cine Motion stock is the hugely popular Arri Alexa. This camera has become the norm for high end digital cinema. Whilst doing the rounds in the Hollywood movies it’s proved hugely successful in dramas, music promos and commercial work. The Alexa shoots to SxS Pro cards; straight to edit ready ProRes in various flavours providing a speedy workflow from camera to edit with no transcoding. Rushes are viewable in full resolution right from the card to provide easy playback.

Our Alexa comes ready with the 120 frames per second high speed license allowing for beautiful filming four times slower than real time.

Metabones Lens Adaptor

A new lens adaptor for Sony E-Mount cameras like the NEX-FS100 and the newly announced FS700; the MetaBones adaptor will allow the use of popular Canon EF lenses. Previous EF lens adaptors for the Sony cameras could not control the electronic iris, drastically minimising the use of the lens. These adaptors now allow the use of the massive Canon range of lenses. A nice addition if you are looking for a medium ground camera between DSLR’s and the Sony F3 and Canon C300. It does not optically change the quality of the lens or affect its focal length. The Metabones adaptor can be rented out on it’s own or as part of our FS100 packages.

Arri Friction Wheel

For use on the Arri FF4 and FF5 Follow focus’s we have bought a new addition – the Arri Friction Wheel to work in conjunction with DSLR lenses. The gear is simply pressed against the lens and locked off. The friction between the two allows for the focus puller/operator to pull focus without additional gears fixed around the lens, saving time in changing lenses and keeping things simple on set. One less hassle to worry about when ordering your kit. We will continue to send out the standard prime lens 0.8 gear for use with other lenses as well.

Canon EOS 5D MKIII

Released in the middle of March 2012; the Canon EOS 5D MKIII offers a few important additions from the MKII. To help video recording predominantly higher ISO’s, SMPTE time code including record run, preset and free run, choice of recording compressions and advanced control over audio. Many people expected a lot more from this camera, however now we know what Canon had up there sleeve with the announcement of the C500 and 1D-C later this year. We don’t expect this to make the C300 redundant by any means. This camera has barely seen the shelf, with our fleet proving very popular in all areas of the industry from broadcast, corporate, music promo and commercial. We did quite a bit of research into our C300 rigs and found that the simpler the better. It needed to be quick to get from tripod to shoulder and vice versa, (image to the right). We found this to be a very rigid and reliable rig whilst providing flexibility in how the operator can use it.

O’Connor 1030 Tripod

The O’Connor 1030 is designed for geared up C300’s, F3’s and FS100’s. It provides the same fluid motion, gearing and stability as the heavier O’Connor’s whilst being lightweight and more suitable to the size and build of the camera system. It allows the use of longer 35mm zoom lenses that need more stability especially on the longer end of the lens.
